Return of French refugees, 1940

Once evacuated by the French government, Alsatians and Lorrainers are now being transported back to the region annexed by the Germans. The Nazi propaganda writes on the back of the photograph: The French in the unoccupied territory let the returning Alsatians feel their hatred until the end. In the most undignified manner, the returnees were crammed into cattle cars and transported back to their homeland. Our picture shows the arrival of a transport train of Alsatian returnees who also had to make the journey in cattle cars
