The Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen (3rd from left) in Kristiana, today Oslo after his return from the Gjoea expedition (1903-06). Amundsen succeeded to make the trip through the North West passage with the ship Gjoea, the ship's route went from the Atlantic through the Canadian-Arctic Archipelago and the Beaufort Sea to the Pacific (Bering Straight).
