Rotes Rathaus in Berlin, 1937

The Rote Rathaus [Red City Hall] (so called due to its color and not with political allusions) in the Koenigsstrasse was built according to designs by H. F. Waesemann 1861-69 with reference to the north Italian high renaissance. The model for the tower was the bell tower of the cathedral in French Laon. The outer frieze was decorated with the stony chronicle, a terra cotta frieze on the level of the 1st storey. It comprises 36 tables each 6 meters long, depicting scenes from the history of Berlin
