Ruins at Cholm, 1942
Due to the continuous artillery fire of the Soviet Red Army on the enclosed German Wehrmacht in Kholm, the entire city was destroyed. In the background, the destroyed church in the city centre. During the encirclement battle of Kholm the Kampfgruppe Scherer successfully defended the city for 105 days.
