Sale of the island of Gotland to the Teutonic Knights, 1399
In the document in Low German language with sixty seals, the grand master of the Teutonic Knights, Konrad von Jungingen, obtains in 1399 the island of Gotland with all rights for 30.000 gulden. The Hanseatic League and the Teutonic Knights had fought against the Victual Brothers, a band of pirates who settled on the island. After the pirates were chased away, King Albrecht of Sweden and Duke Johann of Mecklenburg gave the island to the Grand Master of the Order
