Salomon Andree and his companions
The Swedish engineer and Arctic explorer Salomon Andree (seated right) started in 1897 from the Spitsbergen with Knut Fraenkel (right standing) and Nils Strindberg (left standing) in the balloon Adler to fly for the first time over the North Pole. The participants of the Expedition remained lost until 1930 when in the north east of Spitsbergen were found remains, including diaries and photographs
