The American painter Samuel Morse was the inventor of the electromagnetic telegraph and Morse code was named after him. The Morse telegraph patent was filed in 1937. On 27 May 1844 Morse sent the first telegraph through a trial basis laid telegraph line between Washington and Baltimore
