Self-sinking of German cargo ships in Peru, 1941
Two German cargo ships are sunk by their crews in the port of Calau in Peru. On the left the freighter Leipzig, on the right the Monserrate. The background to this was the confiscation of German assets in the USA. The sinking was carried out to forestall a similar move by the host country
