Ship stokers in the First World War, around 1916
Ship stokers on board a German warship of the Imperial Navy. They had virtually no chance of survival if the ship sank or caught fire. When the German Admiralty proclaimed the last battle against the English in November 1918, the stokers extinguished the fire under the boilers, which started the sailor mutiny
