Short Mayo Composite flying boat, 1937
The lower component of the Short Mayo Composite Plane is anchored in Rochester. The Short Mayo Composite aircraft consists of a Short Empire flying boat (G-ADHK Maia') which carries a smaller Short Mercury seaplane (G-ADHJ). The Mercury was carried by the Maia up to cruising altitude, then the planes parted company and the Maia returned to the airport of departure. Thus the Mercury could cover longer distances
