South pole expedition by Robert F. Scott, 1911/12
South pole expedition team, lead by Robert F. Scott, in front of the Union Jack on January 17, 1912. Fr. le. to ri.: Cpt. Lawrence Oates, Lieut. Henry Bowers, Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, Dr. Edward Wilson and P.O. Edgar Evans. The picture was taken with the help of cord that Wowers had fixed on the camera. The march back was a tragedy, all five men died due to frostbite, hunger and exhaustion. The film was found almost a year later on Scott and his comrades
