Sulpiz Boisseree, 1827

Sulpiz Boisseree (1783-1854), an art scholar and art collector who campaigned, together with his brother Melchior, for the completion of the Cologne Cathedral. Their important collection of German and Dutch paintings from the Middle Ages was acquired in 1827 by King Ludwig I of Bavaria for the Alte Pinakothek in Munich
