The Taj Mahal in Agra, 1939
The Taj Mahal (Tadsch Mahal) is a mausoleum (completed around 1648), which was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife who died in 1631. The octagon, with a diameter of 55m, crowned by an onion dome (58m high) stands on a platform framed by four minarets. The complex is in its form pure Safavid-Persian, but in terms of facilities it is in style of the Mughal dynasty. The Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
