Armored cars (also called tanks') had always been trained and used in support of the infantry until the Second World War. Only shortly before the outbreak of World War II did various armies, including the American tanks, begin to operate in closed, larger individual units. This was the tactic that brought the Wehrmacht (armed forces) their first victories
