Thomas Muenzer in the Peasants War

Thomas Muenzer, a radical follower of Martin Luther, wanted to establish a theocracy as a preacher, and was at the head of a peasant army which was defeated on 15.05.1525 by Landgraf Philipp von Hessen at Frankenhausen. Muenzer was captured and executed. The picture shows him before the final battle, as he demands a sign from heaven for the rebellious peasants
