Victor Emmanuel III - parade - anniversary of March on Rome
The portrait shows Enzo Fusco from Avellino with the youthful members of the Accademia Fascista del Foro Mussolini in Rome in 1938. Enzo had travelled as a stowaway on a ship to Ethiopia at the beginning of the Abyssinia War as a thirteen-year-old to take part in the Italian war of aggression. After the war, he was awarded the Silver Medal by Mussolini and allowed to join the Accademia for training. Enzo Fusco was thus a sought-after propaganda example of the courage that young people in fascist Italy were expected to emulate. Photograph by Gustav Dahn
