View of the Crane Gate of Gdansk, 1770

This engraving by J. Schuster based on a drawing by Friedrich Lohrmann shows the Krantor in the style of the Brick Gothic, a city gate of Gdansk, and in front of it the river Mottlau. The crane was erected in the second half of the 14th century. It is a wooden gate with double crane function, this lifting device is one of the oldest in the German speaking area. During the Second World War, the gate was destroyed, then rebuilt and since the early 60s it belongs to the Maritime Museum
