After the end of the Soviet Republic in Bavaria, the writer Ernst Toller fled from the terror of white troops and hid in a chamber in the Schwabing painting studio of Johannes Reichel, where he was arrested on 4 June 1919. The picture shows the open tapet door, the joints of which had been hidden with pictures hung over it and behind which Toller sought refuge
