Wilhelm Pieck, German Communist Party

The co-founder of the German Communist Party Wilhelm Pieck (1876-1960) after his release in Berlin. Pieck was a deputy to the Prussian State Parliament during 1921-28 and was arrested during the Vienna riots. He was then a deputy to the Reichstag from 1928-33 and went into exile in 1933 (first in Paris and then in the USSR). After the Second World War he was chairman with Otto Grotewahl of the SED (Socialist Unity Party of Germany) during the years 1946 to 1954 and from 1949 to 1960 he was president of the DDR (German Democratic Republic)
