William Beebe, American zoologist and sea explorer

The American zoologist and deep sea explorer (1877-1962) in his famous steel diving ball Bathysphere on 6 August 1930, with which he has established a diving world record. Together with his colleagues Otis Barton in the Bermuda trench in the Caribbean, he had reached the -at that time- sensational depth of 1426 feet. The quartz glass anchored with steel bolts allowed the observation of the deep sea, the carried oxygen devices renewed the stale air
