At the time the picture was taken in October, the next major loss of territory on the Wehrmacht side to the Red Army was imminent. In June, the Heeresgruppe Mitte had been destroyed by the Soviet Union in the most costly battle in German history. The propagandistic tone on the reverse side of the picture is therefore even sharper, with slogans of perseverance and praising German strength. Meanwhile, the workers in the picture are splicing cables for aircraft flight controls
