Women looking for work at a railway station, around 1914

In the large cities and industrial conurbations there were also many young women and girls from the countryside looking for work. In the stations and waiting rooms, these job-seeking women were often to be found individually or in small groups. Many of them were picked up by traffickers and pimps and ended up in brothels or on the streets
