Working class settlements in the vicinity of the Grand Coule

View at both Working class settlements, which were created at the occasion of the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam. In the foreground is the Coulee Dam (also called engineer's Town or Government Camp') where the government employees were housed, on the other side of the Columbia River is Mason City, where the workers of the private contractor lived. The Grand Coulee Dam is a dam which was built in the years 1935-41 in a gorge of the Columbia River. It serves for the flood control, electricity generation and irrigation
