The Citadel of Jerusalem, also known as the Tower of David or the Jerusalem Citadel, which is an ancient citadel located near the Jaffa Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem. The outline of the citadel known at present is from the Crusader period; wherein the citadel itself was built in the mid-16th century by the Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, and incorporated the remains of earlier citadels dating from Ayyubid and Mamluk eras
