USSR. American swimmer Lynne Cox before a one-hour swimming from the Tolsty Cape to the Listvyanka village across the mouth of the Angara River. Cox covered 5 km in 30 minutes in the most difficult part of the river - its head flowing out of Lake Baikal. The route was mapped with the assistance of the Meridian motor boat captain. It took the swimmer 4 hours 20 minutes to cover 18 km, thus setting the world record in duration of coldswimming (11oC). Edgar Bryukhanenko/TASS
