Barracks for Chernobyl disaster cleanup workers
Bryansk, Russia. Many of the Chernobyl disaster cleanup workers live in similar places, with no running water and basic facilities. In the 11 years after the nuclear accident at the Chernobyl Power Plant, 80 cleanup workers died before they turned 45. By 1997, the number of workers treated in Bryansk is 3000, 300 of them are disabled. Bryansk Region authorities owe almost 200 billion rubles of compensation and perks to these people.
