Eiffel Tower in Paris, 1993

Paris, France. The Eiffel Tower as a contemporary symbol of Paris was erected in 1889 to commemorate 100th anniversary of the Great French bourgeois revolution. It was named after the engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Its erection was initially criticized by citizens of Paris.
