TAS07. TYUMEN, RUSSIA. JANUARY 22. Grigory Rasputin/pix from Rasputin's museum in Pokrovka settlement/, who exerted a tremendous influence on the life of the Imperial court and the policy of Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, was born in a peasant family in Pokrovskoe settlement of Tobolsk province in 1869. Rasputin was a semilirerate peasant and debauchee who preached and practiced a doctrine of salvation that mixed religious fervor and sexual indulgence. He gained a powerful hold over czarina Alexandra Fyodorovna and, through her, over the Tsar. Rasputin's disgraceful behaviour helped to undermine the Imperial government. In 1916 a group of right-wing patriots assassinated Rasputin. During Febryary 1917 revolution Rasputin's body was exhumed and burned by the mob
