Grozny, Chechnya. A view of the Presidential Palace building damaged in the First Chechen War. Formerly the seat of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous SSR Republic Committee of the Communist Party, it was adopted by Dzhokhar Dudayev as the official residence and became the stronghold fiercely defended by Chechen militants during the First Battle of Grozny.
