Leningrad, USSR. A view of the Peter and Paul Fortress as the sun goes down. Built 275 years ago, it is the historical start of the city. The Peter and Paul Cathedral houses tombs of all Imperial Russia's rulers, including Peter the Great, founder of St.Petersburg, Catherine the Great, and the last Russian monarch Nicholas II. It was where five participants of the Decemberists conspiracy were executed by hanging on the eastern rampart of Kronverk on July 13, 1826; 120 Decemberists were sent to Siberia. Yuri Belinsky/TASS
