Attempted assassination of Napoleon III by Orsini and others

Attempted assassination of Napoleon III on 14 February 1858 on the way to the Paris Opera. The Emperor and Empress were unhurt, but eight people and one horse were killed, and more than one hundred people and one horse were injured. The four conspirators, Orsini, Pieri, Rudio and Gomez, threw three bombs at the imperial carriage. Orsini and Pieri were later executed
