Cartoon satirising the relationship between Caroline of Brunswick, wife of King George IV, and her manservant/courier, Bartolomeo Pergami (or Bergami). Here Pergami is depicted as Harlequin, and Caroline as a female Scaramouche, both based on Commedia dell'Arte characters. The book cover in the bottom right-hand corner, Hop Step and Jump... from Dunghill to Barona refers to the fact that through his relationship with Caroline, Pergami has risen from nowhere to the aristocracy
