Cartoon, Lady Florence Caroline Dixie (nee Douglas, 1855-1905), British traveller, war correspondent, writer and feminist. In March 1883 she claimed that an assassination attempt had been made on her by two men disguised as women, not far from Windsor, but that her life was saved when a St Bernard dog rescued her. However, doubt was quickly thrown on her account of the incident
