German battleship Scharnhorst sunk in the Arctic, 26 December 1943, WW2 - after attempting to attack a Russia-bound convoy near Bear Island, she was attacked by HMS Norfolk and steamed off. She was followed by cruisers and destroyers, and was attacked with torpedoes by HMS Duke of York and HMS Jamaica. She eventually became a burning wreck and sank
