Japanese Hina Dolls
Japanese Hina Dolls - associated with an annual Dolls Festival on 3 March each year, a special day, especially for girls, who display their dolls and invite guests to a grand dinner'. Shown here are the Dairi Hina, or Court Dolls (Lord and Lady), which would be placed on a shelf in a corner of a room. To left and right are two chigo or child pages, with a gold-leafed folding screen made of silk behind. These particular dolls are part of a set belonging to Princess Takamatsu, designed and made by Yahei Tanaka of Kyoto. They are about one foot high and made of wood
