The Taking of Zutphen, Siege of Zutphen, 1591
The Taking of Zutphen, Siege of Zutphen (present day Gelderland, Netherlands), 19-30 May 1591, part of the Eighty Years War (1568-1648) and the Anglo-Spanish War (1585-1604). Some of the English troops were disguised as farmers, others as women, carrying butter, cheese and eggs for sale, and with their weapons hidden. They were allowed inside the fortification, upon which they drew their weapons and attacked the enemy. The gates being open, more troops were able to enter, and the siege was over
