Machine for testing wagon springs
The World's First Railway Laboratory was set up at Crewe in 1864. One hundred years later, the Duke of Edinburgh opened new engineering research laboratories at Derby. The large test hall houses a heavy dynamic fatigue testing installation for experiments with bridge girders and concrete units. This photograph shows equipment used for testing wagon springs.
