Description | 1861 Census office |
Details |
The Census Office at Craig's Court, near Trafalgar Square in London. Up until 1920, a Census Act had to be passed every ten years to permit the taking of a census in the UK. Therefore, there was no permanent office established for the collection of census returns, and a temporary location was used each time. In 1861, the office was located here.
