Officers of the first Indian regiment to come into action during the First World War, the 129th Duke of Connaught's Own Baluchis, Indian Army. It composed of six companies of trans-frontier Pathans from independent territory on the North West Frontier of India and two companies of Punjabi Musselmans from Rawal Pindi and Jhelum districts. The regiment had the additional distinction of being the first Indian regiment to have a recipient of the V.C., Private Khuda Dad.
