An injured soldier is carried away by stretcher bearers, whilst two officers look on.
"Haven't you heard? He's got a shrapnel bullet in his foot.
Has he? comes the reply. Lucky beggar!"
Part of a series of articles written by an officer returned from the Front on sick leave for The Bystander, offering a different perspective to that given by the newspaper 'correspondent at the front' that the public was more accustomed to.
