Attempting to hold at bay the people that thronged round the Abdin Palace and nearly penetrated the courtyard. The Sphere reports that, 'The crowds were good-humoured enough, but a firm stand had to be taken as there was no knowing to what lengths they would go to in their delirious enthusiasm.'
