The German line taken in flank by a mounted charge in the teeth of heavy machine gun fire. Major Evelyn H. W. Williams of the Hussars was awarded the DSO for his action. He led a mounted charge after the infantry line had broken back and took the line in flank in the face of the heaviest machine gun fire. The charge sabred 100 of the enemy and took 100 prisoners although his own troop numbered only 150. His action rallied the infantry who advanced and recovered over 3000 yards.
