A family scene in a crowded and cramped cottage interior with laundry on a washing line and a cat included. A lady spins yarn near the door, another stirs a pot at the fireplace while the rest of the family sit near her. Miserable conditions were brought on by the potato famine in the mid 19th century in Clare Island, west of Ireland.
