A Fool There Was by Porter Emerson Browne which was first produced at the Queen’s Theatre in Manchester on 21st March 1911.
Based on Rudyard Kipling’s 1897 Poem ‘The Vampire’”. The woman bends vampire-like over the man stretched out on the floor. The poem begins “A fool there was, and he made his prayer/(Even as you and I!)/To a rag and a bone and a hank of hair/We called her the woman who did not care….”
