A French heavy-gun battery on the Macedonian border A French heavy-gun battery is pictured moving uphill through lines of barbed wire on the Balkan front, October 1916. The battery was part of the Allied army based in the Greek port of Salonika who were engaged in fighting the Bulgarian army, who had joined the central powers in the invasion of Serbia in October 1915.
