Picture No 10951893
Date 1917
Description A gas-bag motor boat
Details

The scarcity of petrol during the First World War saw the introduction of cars and vans powered by gas, with the gas being transported in a huge bag on the roof. In this instance, as the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News comments, 'the gas-bag is finding its way into more channels than one.' This boat was photographed at an unidentified North of England pleasure resort.
