Description | A gift to Exeter Cathedral - statues being hoisted into plac |
Details |
Statues of patron saints, donated anonymously in thanksgiving for the end of the Great War, are hoisted into position in the empty niches round and above the north porch of Exeter Cathedral. The seven statues represented the patron saints of the Allies and were the work of Herbert Read, an Exeter sculptor. The statue of St. George trampling the dragon underfoot is shown in the insert picture.
