Description A Night at Covent Garden by Matania
Details

German opera draws London society to Covent Garden - a scene during the performance of Strauss's Elektra at the Royal Opera House. Drawn by Sphere special artist, Fortunino Matania from an unusual perspective as he placed himself in the roomy orchestra pit where he drew a view of the orchestra, conductor, stage and boxes. At the time of his visit, Elektra was conducted by Robert Heger and amongst the artists were Mesdames Gertrud Kappel and Maria Olczewska and Herr Soot.
