Description | A scene in Haarlem, New York by Helen McKie |
Details |
A scene, offensively entitled, 'Nigger Heaven', published in The Bystander and featuring rather racist caricatures of the black population of the New York district of Harlem. An extremely well-dressed and dandyish black man strides out in a purple suit, trilby and, striped shirt and yellow neck tie, leaving behind him an admiring bevy of women. All are painted according to the racial stereotyping of the era.
