Scene at a railway accident at Abbots Ripton, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. There was firstly a collision between an express passenger train and a coal train, then a later express passenger train collided with the debris from the first collision. It took place on the Great Northern Railway at Abbots Ripton near Huntingdon on 21 January 1876. The enquiry found that the primary causes of the accident were blizzard conditions and defective equipment; a secondary cause was a signalling error. There were 14 fatalities and 58 people injured.
